About St. Jude

St. Jude welcomes you to experience its lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.® through the unique and exciting event Viva St. Jude, September 27-28, 2024. Please learn more about St. Jude through the sections below and how you can help support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude.

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family's ability to pay.  Families never receive a bill for treatment, lodging, travel, or food.

Since opening its doors in 1962, St. Jude has led the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Cost to family: $0

Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live.

Saving kids worldwide

St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world.

Our goal: 100% survival

Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 60 years ago.

Financials and Budget

82 cents of every dollar received from donations, research grants, insurance recoveries and investment returns goes to support the current and future needs of St. Jude.

Our $12.9 billion, six-year strategic plan

It currently costs more than $2 billion to run St. Jude each year, and that cost is estimated to grow to $2.2 billion by 2027. Care doesn't end when treatment is finished. St. Jude follows patients for life, learning from yesterday's patients to improve care and outcomes for tomorrow.

Around the world, an estimated 400,000 children will get cancer each year, and yet childhood cancer research is consistently underfunded. Less than 4% of the U.S. federal budget for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancer.

In the years ahead, an estimated 89% of the funds necessary to sustain and grow St. Jude must be raised by ALSAC from generous donors.

Thanks to our supporters, we can give kids with cancer the chance they deserve.
